Our commitment to providing an exceptionally high standard of care, exclusive care worker-client matching, and a personalised approach that goes above and beyond standard home care services.
At A Star Care, our live-in carers are dedicated to providing one-to-one care, enabling your loved one to continue enjoying a secure, safe, comfortable, and independent life within their own home. In a typical day the carer might play games or share activities such as cooking or gardening. Our carers also offer comprehensive support including assisting with personal care such as bathing, washing, dressing, and maintaining personal and oral hygiene. They help with toileting needs and continence care, ensuring that medication is administered as prescribed and on schedule. Put simply, the carer will try to support to ensure you or a loved on can carry on doing the things you enjoy, while minimising risk.
If care is for a loved one, You will be notified of illness or a fall, or anything else that you need to be aware of and the carer will also contact health care professionals such as nurses or doctors if they need to.
Additionally, our carers assist with maintaining your loved one’s appearance, which promotes dignity and self-esteem. They prepare nutritious meals tailored to dietary preferences and requirements and handle general household chores to keep the living environment clean and organised.
Please note that while our live-in carers are highly skilled and trained, they are not qualified nurses. They are capable of performing certain clinical tasks such as managing PEG feeds, dressing wounds, and managing catheters or stomas. However, they are not able to administer injections.
Yes, you will need to provide a suitable, furnished, warm, secure, and private room for your live-in carer. As your carer may spend their breaks and downtime in this room, it is important to include furnishings such as a comfortable bed, bedside table, chest of drawers, wardrobe, armchair, desk, and television, if possible.
We suggest that the carer’s room is lockable, or if this isn’t feasible, that there is a safe place for them to keep their personal belongings and valuables. Additionally, carers are advised not to invite their own friends and family to visit them at your home.
Certainly, many of our clients utilise support from their local authority through direct payments. To initiate this process, you should initiate a care needs assessment with your local council. Following the assessment, your loved one’s liquid assets (excluding their property) will be evaluated. In England, if the assets are below £23,250, government support becomes accessible.
Yes, every carer at A Star Care possesses a strong command of both written and spoken English to ensure clear and effective communication.
If you prefer a carer who is also fluent in a second language, just let us know, and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
At A Star Care, we recognise the importance of continuity, especially for those living with conditions such as dementia. While our dedicated carers are committed to providing consistent, high-quality care, they also need regular time off to rest and recharge.
Primary Carer’s Schedule
- Your primary carer will typically stay with you for around four weeks at a time.
- After this period, they will take a break, usually lasting one or two weeks.
Seamless Transition to Respite Care
- During your primary carer’s time off, we will arrange for a skilled and experienced respite carer to step in.
- The respite carer is carefully selected to ensure they can provide the same high standard of care you are accustomed to.
Ensuring Continuity and Familiarity
- When the respite carer arrives, we allow ample time for a thorough handover.
- Your primary carer will brief the respite carer on your daily routine, preferences, and any specific needs.
- Practical information, such as the location of the nearest shop and other essential details, will also be shared.
This thorough handover process ensures that the transition is smooth and that your care remains uninterrupted and consistent, maintaining the quality and familiarity you rely on.
At A Star Care, we provide essential companionship and support when family members cannot be present. Our live-in carers are selected for their ability to meet healthcare needs and shared interests with you or your loved one.
